Coach John Fox gave the team a rare Monday off but the team was fairly banged up after that hard hitting affair. The team has several bumps and bruises; the most serious coming out of the game in Chicago was the broken ankle suffered by Deshaun Foster. Now with Foster out the onus of the rushing attack falls to Nick Goings. As many Panther fans know, when Goings has been asked to fill in he has generally contributed with great success. While Foster is a faster and flashier runner than Goings, Goings is more of a straight ahead power runner which actually may be to the Panthers advantage if the playing surface is soggy in Seattle. Goings started eight games for the Panthers last season and in five of those eight games he rushed for more than 100 yards, so the guy can get the job done. If the offensive line gives the guy some holes he’ll hit them so I am not overly concerned with the loss of Foster. If for whatever reason Goings is lost to injury the Panthers will then be relegated to using Jamal Robertson who is already slated to spell Foster. Robertson had a very good preseason but has seen spot duty so far in the regular season. He has been the Panthers main kick-off return man so he is a decent runner. The ground game, as always, will be the key to setting up the pass in Seattle. And speaking of Seattle, I’m off to the West Coast Wednesday. I’ll be at the Seahawks practice Thursday. |
