I slept in my car last night, after working until after 11pm. I have been in Baton Rouge since Monday, helping to keep WWL, our sister station, on the air. We have several satellite trucks here, all working to get live reporter stories from the affected areas. WWL is working out of the TV facilities at Louisiana State University since their New Orleans building is flooded.

Although I have not been anywhere near the destruction, I still feel and see the sadness and devastation. Thousands of people have been flooding into Baton Rouge to seek shelter. The arena at LSU is filling up with refugees. Hotel lobbies are filled with people trying to find their relatives. The cell phones are jammed, because people are trying desperately to talk with loved ones. Many of the WWL employees are working 24/7, even though they may have lost everything. Occasionally, I will pass someone in the hall who is sobbing, but they are here trying to get information out to whoever has power. I admire and feel for these people. I get to go home, next week, to Charlotte, my wife and daughter. Some of these people don't know when they can go home, or if they have a home to return to. Some have relatives that rode out the storm in New Orleans, and haven't been heard from since the storm hit.
