It's been a busy three days since I last wrote. Today I was able to fly over St. Bernard's Parish down on the Gulf. I have never seen anything like it. I felt like I was looking at a movie and not real life. It was awful. Horrible. Words just can't describe it. There wasn't one house, store, church that was livable. Everything was destroyed! Boats out of the water, houses in the water, sticks that once were houses, roads that look at rivers, roads in the river. It just saddens me. One of the photogs that work here was standing over my shoulder as I edited the footage together looking for his house. He knows he lost everything. Just watching his face would bring tears to your eyes.

Thursday and Friday things were much easier for me. I was connected to a camera and did one live shot after another. Forty-two to be exact on Thursday. Friday was around the same. I have mixed emotions about doing just live shots. I know it needs to be done and that I was sent down here to do anything I was asked to do, but I'm torn. In a way, I like it because it takes me out of the sadness and destruction, but the other side of, the photog in me, wants to go out and tell the stories. Show the pictures, let people know what's going on. There are stories everywhere you turn. Everyone is willing to share too. I think that it really helps them to get it out instead of all bottled up. I did laundry last night and had some soap left over. There was a lady next to me doing some wash with her son and I asked her if she would like it...it was only 3 loads or so. She was so happy and appreciative. It was like it made her day. I chatted with her as my clothes dried. It turns out that she is from New Orleans. She, her husband and son are living in a shelter on LSU's campus. They made it out fine, but only have 3 days worth of clothes. I felt so bad for her. Such a nice, kind lady who might have lost everything, but still very positive. It's nice to see a smiling face while in such depressing situation.

Tomorrow, I get to go out with a reporter and do a story. I'm excited about it, but I'm also ready to go home on Monday.
