Tony Mandarich, the number-two overall pick in the 1989 NFL Draft who went on to become one of the biggest busts in NFL history, will talk about his steroid use and alcohol addiction on tomorrow's edition of Showtime's "Inside the NFL." Mandarich's interview with Armen Keteyian will air at 9 p.m. tomorrow. He will admit, among other things, that he provided a fake urine sample to evade detection before the 1988 Rose Bowl in which Michigan State beat Southern California, 20-17.
Mandarich is about to release a new book, "My Dirty Little Secrets -- Steroids, Alcohol & God -- The Tony Mandarich Story." The book will hit shelves in March. Mandarich's book will contain plenty of information about Mandarich's own substance-abuse problems, but he promises not to follow the lead of Jose Canseco, who accused fellow major leaguers by name in his semi-confessional books, "Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant 'Roids, Smash Hits & How Baseball Got Big," and "Vindicated."
Here's what Mandarich had to say about Canseco,
according to a partial transcript of the Keteyian interview released by Showtime:
"I don't think that you should benefit off other people's short-comings. In my opinion, Jose Canseco is an (expletive) for what he did, the way he did it. I mean that's chicken (expletive)."
Mandarich seems like a decent guy...hope he gets stuff turned around.
He's a huge boy though. He kinda looks like BCN from Nuttcups. I bet BCN got into steroids in prison: http://tinyurl.com/457kol
