I wouldn't call the Steinbrenner family a bunch of liberals, but thanks to the reporting of the Tom Fornelli on the FanHouse blog, I realize that perhaps they should be. Fornelli notes that it has been 50 years since the Yankees won a World Series while a Republican lived in the White House -- that Republican was Dwight Eisenhower. Since then, the Yanks have gone 0-for-Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush and Bush. Meanwhile, they managed to win eight titles under the administrations of John F. Kennedy, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. And, of course, the last Democratic president to serve during a Red Sox championship season was Woodrow Wilson, back in 1918. |
