Erik Murphy, the South Kingstown native who is regarded as one of the top high school basketball players in the country, will taste a bit of the big time in the Big Apple. Murphy, a 6-foot-9 senior-to-be at St. Mark's School in Massachusetts, is one of 24 prep stars playing in the Boost Mobile Elite 24 game Friday night. The game is held at the famed Rucker Park in the Harlem neighborhood and will be broadcast live on ESPNU at 8 p.m. The game will be shown on tape on ESPN2 this Monday at midnight. Murphy, who is committed to play for Billy Donovan at Florida beginning in the fall of 2009, will be joined by many of the best high school players in the nation. Included are New Yorkers Lance Stephenson, Dexter Strickland and Dominic Cheek and two players scouts say may be the top player in the Class of 2009, Atlanta center Derrick Favors and John Wall, a guard from North Carolina. |
