Keno Davis and his staff have apparently made their first grab into what will be an important recruiting class of 2009.
The Friars have received a verbal commitment from Antoine Allen, a 6-1 guard out of Baltimore. Allen attends lake Clifton High and will attend Notre Dame Prep this coming year before enrolling at Providence in the fall of 2009.
Allen is known as a scoring point guard. He's played very well all summer long for the Cecil Kirk AAU program and at the Hoop Group's Eastern Invitational camps.
Allen was a first team all-city pick in Baltimore last season.
I am still waiting to hear the words pure point guard as a description for a future Providence Friar recruit. We had a roster half full of undersized scoring guards that got us nowhere last year.
