Jill Craybas will play 13th-seeded Patty Schnyder of Switzerland in the first round of the Olympic tennis tournament. Craybas, 34, is ranked No. 75 in the world, Schnyder, 29, No. 16. Schnyder holds a 2-0 lead over Craybas in head-to-head matches on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour. She won a three-setter in the first round of the 2000 U.S. Open and woin in straight sets in the qualifying round of the 2006 Bank of the West Classic at Stanford University. If Craybas manages the upset, she will play either Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain or Sybille Bammer of Austria in the second round. Craybas beat Bammer three years ago in their only match and has lost to Medina Garrigues in their three matches. If Craybas gets to the third round, she could face top-seeded Ana Ivanovic of Serbia, the No. 1 player in women's tennis. First-round matches are scheduled for Sunday and Monday. |
