Beisel finishes fourth in 400 IM; winner breaks world record

Elizabeth Beisel of Saunderstown did not win a medal in the 400 individual medley finals, finishing fourth in her first Olympic race.

Stephanie Rice of Australia won the gold with a world-record time of 4:29.45. The silver medalist, Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe, also finished with a faster time than the old record, coming in 44/100th of a second back at 4:29.89. Katie Hoff of the United States -- the previous world record-holder at 4:31.12 -- won the bronze in 4:31.71.

Great job, Elizabeth!!!! Saunderstownians are very proud of you as I know the entire state of RI is. Enjoy this wonderful experience you have the opportunity to enjoy.

On the other note... Would one expect anything less from the Journal to bash everything and anything they can? This paper isn't worth the paper it's printed on! It's a rag that should be shut down. OK stepping down off the soap box.
