| ESPN: NFL coaches tab Harrison as league's dirtiest player »
With a victory over Eastern Conference rival Toronto FC in their most recent MLS match, the Revs remained atop the MLS and Eastern Conference standings and earned head coach Steve Nicol and his staff the honor of coaching the MLS All-Stars against English Premier League side West Ham United on July 24 at Toronto's BMO Field. Friday night's Independence Day showdown with the Galaxy will mark the fifth time that the Revolution and the Galaxy have met on July 4, with all five matches occurring at Los Angeles. The clubs have split the four previous meetings, 1-1-2, with the two most recent matches in 2003 and 2005 ending in draws. The contest will also be a rematch of three past championships, as New England and Los Angeles have met in three cup finals in the past seven years - the U.S. Open Cup Final in 2001 and the MLS Cup Final in both 2002 and 2005. The Galaxy has won all three championship encounters, all in overtime. |
