Baseball fans have only a precious few remaining opportunities to visit one of America's most historic ballparks before it is destroyed, as the New York Yankees are playing out the final season in the history of their 85-year-old ballpark. With this in mind, the Brockton Rox have created a memento that they believe will entertain an especially fond reception by baseball fans in and around Boston. On Saturday, August 2 at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, the first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a Bobble Wrecking Ball, comprised of a replica of the old stadium in New York with a wrecking ball swinging above it. "We have tremendously passionate baseball fans in this area, and they appreciate the history of the game," said Rox GM Brian Voelkel. "They also have very clearly placed allegiances, and we are excited to create an original piece of memorabilia that embodies both of those ideas." The Rox host the Atlantic City Surf on Saturday, August 2nd at 6:05 PM. For tickets to Bobble Wrecking Ball Night, and the opportunity to take home a very rare and original piece of memorabilia, call the Rox Ticket Office at (508) 559-7070 or visit them online at www.brocktonrox.com. -- BROCKTON ROX PRESS RELEASE 6 CommentsLeave a comment |

"Tremendously passionate baseball fans in this area"... are you kidding me? You have a bunch of late coming, band wagon hopping, ego centric morons in your area. This pathetic attempt to mock THE baseball institution of the 20th century is absolutely ridiculous. You're pitiful.

Late coming? Band wagon hopping? Where have YOU been? Red Sox fans stuck with this team through an 86-year drought and packed Fenway Park no matter how disappointing the losses. Check the attendance figures. And then check the attendance figures for the "THE baseball institution." No need to check the won-loss record; you can tell when they're losing when the crowds stop coming. There isn't a bigger, more obnoxious front-runner in the world than a Yankee fan. Thankfully they're disappearing now, since the team hasn't won anything this century and doesn't figure to win anything in the near future, either.
Oh, and that baseball institution? You got one thing right: The 20TH century. Too bad for you it's the 21st.

I agree with Jeremy. I grew up in RI and all I ever heard was how bad the Sox were. To say they "stuck" with them is ridiculous. It was Buckner this and Buckner that. Now that they've won as many world series as the pathetic Marlins they call themselves Red Sox Nation. What a joke. When your history is that of an expansion team you're pretty sad.

Keep trying to rewrite history, you pathetic Yankee fans. First of all, the Red Sox have won seven World Series championships, not two. Second, keep ignoring the 2-million plus they'd draw every single year no matter where the team finished . . . compared to the Yankees, who don't draw flies when they don't win. Which, of course, is understandable since Jeremy's right. The dictionary definition of "obnoxious frontrunner" is "Yankee fan."
And keep on waiting for that first championship of the 21st century. Don't hold your breath, though.

AS a lifelong Yankee fan growing up and living in RI, I have seen my share of Yankees wins/losses and Redsox constant losing except as of late. I consider my self a pretty educated fan of the game and find it grossly embarrassing when a so called member of RedSox nation spues diarrhea of the mouth. To say that the Yankees can't draw flies when they are losing, is just plain ignorance. If you check the attendance records, the Yankees have had yearly attendance north of 4 million a year for last 5 years. the Redsox do sell out every game because they only have 37,000 seats. My point here is if you are going to through numbers out, make sure you know what the real numbers are

I *did* check the attendance record, pal. You can too, right here.
FACT: Since 1967, the only years the Yankees ever outdrew the Red Sox is when they were winning. The Red Sox outdrew them every year from '67 to '75, and then again from '89 to '97. That in a ballpark with 20,000 less seats. And that included years when the Red Sox finished under .500 and the Yankees, though they didn't finish first, were over .500. The only year the trend didn't hold was 1982, when the Red Sox were over .500 and the Yankees under but the Yanks had a higher attendance figure . . . by 91,000, or about 1,125 per game.
FACT: The Red Sox have *always* had a higher percentage of tickets sold than the Yankees, always, without fail. The Yankees just started playing to 90 percent of capacity (their highest number was 91.8) in the last three years. The Red Sox have been over 100 percent capacity six times in the last seven seasons, and their lowest in that span was 97.2.
Knowing the facts. What a novel concept. Completely foreign to a Yankee fan, I know.
