NEWPORT - The Big East has just wrapped up its annual football media day festivities at the Viking Hotel.
Here is the predicted order of finish: 1, West Virginia; 2, South Florida; 3, Pittsburgh; 4, Rutgers; 5, Cincinnati; 6, Connecticut; 7, Louisville; 8, Syracuse.

West Virginia, last year's Big East champ and a 48-28 winner over Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl, received 22 of a possible 24 first place votes in a poll of media members. Heisman Trophy candidate QB Pat White leads the Mountaineers.
Coaches and players from all 8 football schools were in attendance. The person who drew one of the biggest media crowds was commissioner Mike Tranghese. He recently announced his retirement, pending June of 2009.
We'll have a feature on Mike T. and the Big East's future without him in Wednesday's Journal.
