UConn inks sponsorship deal with Nike
STORRS, Conn. (AP) - The University of Connecticut's varsity sports teams will be sporting Nike gear and the school will be getting millions of dollars in return.
UConn's trustees have approved a 10-year, $46 million contract with Nike Inc. USA for an exclusive sponsorship deal.
UConn's athletic director says the sports apparel and gear company will provide all of the varsity teams with uniforms, apparel, footwear, practice gear and equipment with a retail value of $31 million and pay the balance in cash.
In exchange, Nike will have its name associated with the university, could advertise at UConn athletic venues and will receive free tickets to games.
The contract goes to the university, Nike and Attorney General Richard Blumenthal for review and signing.
