Press the play button below to hear Bill Reynolds and Kevin McNamara summarize the Celtics championship victory. The topics: the Celtics' greatness and the Lakers' lameness, MVP Paul Pierce, how the team became great, what we can look forward to next season, and how the 2007-08 Celtics compare with other great Boston teams of the past.

Here are some excerpts:

Kevin on the Lakers: "A couple of things overwhelm me -- first was that the Lakers were just so bad. After certainly being more than competitive through the series, I thought that the Celtics were clearly the better team, but for the Lakers to put up such a stinker with so much on the line was just incomprehensible."

And Bill on the Lakers: "Traveling across the country for that? They should have just mailed it in, either that or just left at halftime and said, 'The hell with it.'"

Kevin on Pierce: "I can't feel anything but happiness for him. We've seen him here in New England on some really horrendous Celtics teams. A lot of people wanted to run him out of town throughout his career -- kind of a selfish scorer was the reputation that he earned. And throughout this playoff series, not only in New England but around the country, a lot of people all of a sudden were asking themselves: Isn't Paul Pierce a great player."

Reynolds on how the Celtics exceeded his expectations: "The addition of James Posey I think was a great help. I think in retrospect finding P.J. Brown off the scrap heap there in February was a help. Cassell helped them -- not all the time, but certainly helped them, made them better. The thing that most surprised me, if you look at the totality of it, their commitment to defense. Because Paul Pierce was never known for playing a whole lot of defense. Ray Allen was never known for playing defense. And Doc Rivers, or Kevin Garnett, or both somehow convinced Pierce and Allen to commit themselves defensively, and it just kind of took hold throughout the team. And the best example of that was what we saw last night."
