Red Sox Nation? Carlton Fisk hired as ambassador for the Pale Hose

Before last night's White Sox-Indians game in Chicago, the White Sox held a ceremony to honor Carlton Fisk, the Hall of Fame catcher who split his career between Fenway and Comiskey parks. With former teammates Bo Jackson and Ron Kittle riding in motorcycles beside him, Fisk came out on the field on a bike of his own to acknowledge the cheers of the crowd. Fisk, whose number has been retired by the White Sox since 1997, was marking his official return to that organization -- as a team "ambassador."

''They have defined me as an ambassador -- whatever an ambassador's duties are,'' Fisk said Thursday, acccording to the Chicago Sun Times. ''I just hope it's not an ambassador to Iraq or someplace and they send me over there. I guess that means I'm a jack of all trades and a master of none. I was a master of one, but not anymore.''

This seemed the perfect occasion to post the following clip from 1984 of Fisk, alongside teammate Richard Dotson, doing a commercial for Pizza Hut's "Sox Placemats." You've got to, er, love those '80s White Sox unis.
