Jose Canseco's boxing 'career' begins this summer
It's official: Jose Canseco will do anything for money. The former Sox slugger, and steroids-user-turned-steroids-advocate-turned-steroids-whistleblower has signed on to a celebrity boxing match in Atlantic City. His opponent? Former NFL player Vai Sikahema, who is now the sports director at the NBC affiliate in nearby Philadelphia.
Sikahema, a speedy kick returner in his day for the Cardinals, Packers and Eagles, is much smaller than the 6-4, 245-pound Canseco, who claims to have black belts in kung-fu, taekwondo and Muay Thai. Sikahema was 5-9, 181 pounds as a player, and his early boxing experience consisted of punching the goalposts at Giants Stadium after scoring a touchdown with the Eagles in 1992 -- one of four career touchdowns on punt returns.
Canseco was actually soliciting an opponent for the July 12 event -- which is being promoted by Damon Feldman, the same guy who once managed to lure "celebrities" Tanya Harding, Danny Bonaduce and William "the Refrigerator" Perry into the ring -- on the Internet.
Your Turn: Would you pay to see Jose Canseco in a boxing match?
