Garnett named to NBA's All-Defensive Team
May 12 (Bloomberg) -- Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett and Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant topped the voting for the National Basketball Association's All-Defensive team.
Denver's Marcus Camby and San Antonio's Bruce Bowen and Tim Duncan completed the first team, the NBA said in a news release.
Garnett and Bryant each received 24 first-place votes and 52 overall points in balloting by the 30 NBA head coaches, who were asked to select first and second teams by position, without voting for players on their own squads.
Garnett, who was named the league's Defensive Player of the Year last month after helping Boston to the biggest one-year turnaround in league history, earned his ninth All-Defensive team selection. His 9.2 rebounds per game led the Celtics, who kept opponents to a league-low .419 field-goal shooting percentage.
Bryant, who last week was named the league's Most Valuable Player, was ninth in the NBA with 1.84 steals per game during the regular season. He's been named to the All-Defensive team eight times.
Duncan is an 11-time All-Defensive team member, while Bowen has earned the honor eight times and Camby, the 2007 Defensive Player of the Year, has been selected twice.
The All-Defensive second team includes Houston forward Shane Battier, New Orleans guard Chris Paul, Orlando center Dwight Howard, Detroit forward Tayshaun Prince and Phoenix guard Raja Bell.
