Now, about getting to Omaha. . .
The URI basketball team is learning that it is not easy getting from Kingston, R.I., to Omaha, Neb., on short notice.
But it can be done.
The Rams are practicing at home this afternoon for their NIT game against Creighton in Omaha tomorrow night. It was an easy decision to get the work in at home before heading out. That's because they have had to make the best of difficult travel plans.
There are no flights available today to handle the entire team. So, the Rams will head to Green Airport late this afternoon where they will split into three groups on three different airlines. The hope is that everyone will be reunited by midnight Central time in Omaha.
The Rams-Bluejays' game must be played on the NIT's opening night because the Qwest Center, Creighton's home court, is the site of first and second-round NCAA Tournament games this weekend. Kansas, Wisconsin and Southern Cal are among the eight teams that will play in the building over the weekend.
It makes for a hectic schedule, but no one is complaining.
``It is tough to turn everything around in 24 hours,'' said coach JIm Baron. ``But you know what? It's a great opportunity. We're happy to do it. We look forward to it.
