Yankees' spring training park renamed for Steinbrenner
Feb. 14 (Bloomberg) -- The New York Yankees renamed their spring-training stadium in Tampa, Florida, after owner George Steinbrenner a day before pitchers and catchers report for workouts.
Legends Field will now be known as George M. Steinbrenner Field following two unanimous votes by the Hillsborough County Commission and the Tampa City Council, Steinbrenner's spokesman Howard J. Rubenstein said in a statement.
Since 1996, the Yankees have prepared in Tampa for the Major League Baseball season. The 10,486-seat stadium is located on 1 Steinbrenner Drive.
The 77-year-old Steinbrenner has owned the Yankees since 1973 and has withdrawn from the spotlight in recent years, handing over more control of the team to his sons, Hank and Hal.
