Stoudamire to San Antonio, not Boston

3:06 PM Thu, Jan 31, 2008 | | Write the first comment
By Mike McDermott    Email

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Point guard Damon Stoudamire plans to sign with the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday night, giving the defending champions another veteran option while Tony Parker nurses a left heel injury.

Stoudamire negotiated a buyout with Memphis earlier this week after falling behind two young players in the rotation. His agent, Aaron Goodwin, said the 34-year-old planned to sign with the Spurs sometime after clearing waivers.

The Spurs declined to comment.

Parker wants to play despite bone spurs in his heel, but coach Gregg Popovich has sidelined him indefinitely, saying the injury is getting worse. Results of an MRI exam were expected to be released Thursday.

The absence of Parker comes at a bad time for the Spurs. They've lost a season-high three straight and just started their annual rodeo road trip, a nine-game trek that made its second stop at Western Conference-leading Phoenix on Thursday night. Seattle ended a 14-game losing streak in the trip's opener.

The Suns were a candidate to land Stoudamire, but the Spurs provided him a larger role.
Stoudamire has averaged 13.8 points and 6.3 assists in his 14-year career. He averaged 7.3 points and 3.9 assists in 29 games for the Grizzlies this season. His last game was Dec. 30 against the Spurs.

The Rookie of the Year for Toronto in 1995-96, Stoudamire averaged a career-high 20.2 points in his second season before getting traded to Portland the following year.

After seven-plus seasons with the Trail Blazers, Stoudamire signed as a free agent with Memphis in 2005. A knee injury ended his first season with the Grizzlies after just two months, and his scoring average hasn't returned to double digits since.

Jacque Vaughn, the Spurs' other true point guard, is averaging 4.1 points and 2.4 assists in 36 games, five of them starts. He played a season-high 37 minutes in the Seattle loss.

Brent Barry and Manu Ginobili also have played the point in Parker's absence.

URI adding women's lacrosse, dropping gymnastics

By Mike Szostak    Email

The University of Rhode Island is adding women's lacrosse to its lineup of varsity sports and dropping gymnastics. The Rams will begin play in the Atlantic 10 Conference in the spring of 2010.

Thorr Bjorn, director of athletics, cited the "explosive growth" of high school lacrosse and URI's club team as motivating factors. He said in a statement that the lacrosse roster will have 28 players, an increase of seven over the current gymnastics roster of 21.

The Atlantic 10 and the NCAA sponsor women's lacrosse as a championship sport. URI will join Duquesne, George Washington, La Salle, Massachusetts, Richmond, Sainnt Joseph's, St. Bonaventur and Temple. URI will begin searchinig for a coach on July 1, and the program will start with the fall semester of the 2009-2010 academic year.

Tthe A-10 does not sponsor gymnastics.

Bjorn said URI will honor its athletic scholarships to current gymnasts and commitments made to students who signed a National Letter of Intent. He also pledged the school's assistance to those who want to transfer.

The URI women's lacrosse team will play its home games in Meade Stadium.

As high ankle sprains go, Brady's apparently is the least serious

4:42 PM Wed, Jan 30, 2008 | | Write the first comment
By Art Martone    Email

BY MIKE SZOSTAK
Journal Sports Writer

The Patriots are extremely fortunate that Tom Brady suffered what was apparently the mildest possible high ankle sprain in the AFC Championship game Jan. 20 against San Diego. Had the injury been more serious, he might not be available to play in the Super Bowl Sunday.

A high ankle sprain is damage to the ligaments that connect the lower portions of the tibia and fibula, the two bones that extend from knee to foot. It is more serious that its cousin, the simple ankle sprain, because it involves weight bearing structures and can take twice as long to heal. Athletes with high ankle sprains can be sidelined as long as 12 weeks.

Kim Bissonnette, head athletic trainer at the University of Rhode Island and the lead trainer for the URI football team, agreed that the Patriots took the proper approach with Brady by having him avoid any undue stress on his right leg last week. The All-Pro quarterback caused quite a stir when he was photographed wearing a protective boot while walking in Manhattan.

“Take the initial window of three days and extend it to four or five days and let him rest,” Bissonnette said. “Then tape it up and see what happens.”

Brady practiced Monday and completed the entire workout, even running a couple lengths of the field with the rest of the squad. A pool reporter noted that was limping slightly. If Brady did, indeed, suffer a low-grade high ankle sprain, the limp could have been the result of putting weight on that right ankle.

The Patriots never disclosed the specific injury.

A simple ankle sprain, usually the result of the foot twisting inward (or rolling so the arch faces up), involves stretching or tearing of the ligaments that connect the small bones in the ankle joint. Treatment involves rest, ice, compression and elevation to reduce swelling and provide support. Depending on the severity, recovery can take a few weeks.

A high ankle sprain, or syndesmosis injury, named for the rough edges of the two leg bones held together by the ligament, is usually the result of the foot being twisted out (so the arch faces down) or by the toe being forced up. There can be pain in the middle of the ankle joint and tenderness in front of the ankle but less swelling than in a simple ankle sprain.

Athletic trainers and doctors will suspect a high ankle sprain when squeezing the calf or rotating the ankle out causes pain. An x-ray made when the ankle is stressed will show abnormal motion of the lower ends of the leg bones in a high ankle sprain victim.

“The higher the soreness, the longer the person will be out. You can have pain going all the way up the leg,” Bissonnette said.

Patience is a necessary virtue in healing a high ankle sprain. Patients must let the ligaments heal so they can maintain the proper distance between the ends of the tibia and fibular. The proper functioning of other bones in the ankle joint depends on correct spacing.

Bissonnette said that athletes who come back too early run the risk of further injury that could require surgery to correct. Serious high ankle sprains can necessitate the insertion of screws through the fibula and into the tibia to stabilize the joint.

High ankle sprains account for about 10 percent of ankle sprains, although they seem to be occurring with increasing frequency.

“We have seen a lot more of them,” Bissonnette said. He is not sure if medical personnel are more knowledgeable than they were a generation or two ago or if the forces to which athletes are subject are greater because athletes are bigger, faster and stronger than a generation or two ago.

Clemens shows up at Astros camp

1:25 PM Wed, Jan 30, 2008 | | Write the first comment
By Mike McDermott    Email

HOUSTON (AP) - Roger Clemens showed up at the Houston Astros' minicamp on Wednesday and sidestepped a question about his upcoming appearance before a House committee investigation performance-enhancing drugs in baseball.

"I'm not going to talk about that," said Clemens, dressed in jogging pants, a hooded sweatshirt and a baseball cap. "I'm doing it the right way and do what I need to do. We're going to do it the right way."

The seven-time Cy Young Award winner has been invited to testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee for a deposition or transcribed statement on Feb. 5 and public testimony eight days later. His former personal trainer, Brian McNamee, and former teammate Andy Pettitte have also been invited.

McNamee said in last month's Mitchell Report on drug use in baseball that he injected Clemens at least 16 times with steroids or HGH in 1998, 2000 and 2001. Clemens has repeatedly denied the accusations and Lanny Breuer, one of the pitcher's lawyers, said Tuesday that his client stood by his previous denials.

Clemens has a personal services contract with the Astros that starts following his retirement as a player. His oldest son, Koby, is a minor leaguer in the Astros system and is participating in the camp.

Not even Koby was sure whether his father would show this week. Clemens said the attention focused on him now was never going to deter him.

"Like I said, I'm not going anywhere," he said. "I think my track record is what it is. I think there's enough of you standing in front of me that have known me for a long, long time. It is what it is."

The Astros kept an open invitation for Clemens to participate in the minicamp, a precursor to spring training next month. Clemens planned to throw batting practice and talk to the Astros prospects.

"I'm doing everything I love to do. I mean, I'm not going anywhere," he said. "So I love to do these things, and the Astros and the other teams that I've worked with have always been real supportive. And like I said, if I can share any insight to these young kids at this level while they're trying to reach their goals, reach their dreams, it's all the more better."

Will Daniels hoops chat transcript

1:28 PM Tue, Jan 29, 2008 | | Write the first comment
By Mike McDermott    Email

Will Daniels: Hi everyone - Will here. Just want to say hello before we get going with the chat. Thanks to everyone who has stopped by.

Rhodewarrior: Will, you guys are off to a great start- congrats! What are you guys doing to intensify your defense this year. There are a lot of open looks for other teams and with a deep bench what are the plans to get a March Ready defense in order?

Will Daniels: What's up RhodeWarrior - we need to keep preparing in practice for our opponents. Team defense requires helping each other out, talking on D, and that's what Coach B stresses.

AnthonyD: Will i went to red hook high school, i was a freshman when you were a senior and i remember you playing against greg nero and how everyone said that greg was better. You've obviously proved who was better. Im glad to see how much you've accomplished at rhode island and hopefully people from around here will get the chance to see you play in the NBA next year. Keep up the good work.

Will Daniels: AnthonyD - Greg is a good player and a friend and it was great playing with him during high school. It's good to see him having a lot of success over at Fairfield. I think Red Hook beat us all four years when I was at FDR, so thanks for not bringing that up.

PlayerNumber6: Will, Thanks for being part of this great team at URI. Your style of play has gotten you into foul trouble a couple of times this season. However, during the St. Bonaventure game, you and your team mates did an excellent job preventing this foul trouble. Have you been working on this aspect of your game with your team?

Will Daniels: Player6 - the better team defense we play, the easier it is for us to stay out of foul trouble. It's on all of us to do that. In the St. Bonaventure game, we did a better job of limiting penetration and keeping our man in front of us. That's what limited our foul trouble.

twisted3829: will awesome year so far. how does the team feel about the student support you are getting not only at games but around campus? Also how do you feel about being on ESPN2 and on national television?

Will Daniels: Twisted - thanks very much. We enjoy the student support and we're encouraging more to come out for the rest of the season. As far as the national attention, it's been great. But we need to keep up our success to remain in the national spotlight.

Bruce: Will: Congratulations on a great season to date! Two questions--first, tell us about your relationship with Coach Baron. Secondly, I noticed that, on some of your threes, you have a very flat arc and on others, the arc is much higher. Is that done on purpose? Good luck on the rest of the season.

Will Daniels: Bruce - Coach B and I have a great relationship. He is the main reason I chose Rhode Island four years ago and I enjoy playing for him. We've been through a lot together and it's helped our relationship grow. As for my jumper, I try to shoot with a high arc and sometimes it doesn't work out that way...

617RhodyFan: Hey Will, hope to see you onto bigger and better things both this year and for the rest of your playing career. Can you talk a little bit about the team's comfort level playing at the Ryan Center? Obviously it's very high with your record at home.

Will Daniels: 617 - We're very comfortable at home. Our fans do a great job of supporting us, which has a lot to do with it. We're very confident at home, which plays a key role in our home wins.

GandysFantasy: Will, first of all, congratulations on an outstanding URI career thus far. What would it mean to you, as a senior, to actually reach the NCAA Tournament. What are your goals for the remainder of the season?

Will Daniels: Gandy - it would mean a lot to me as a senior - as well as Parfait and Joe as seniors - to be able to make the NCAA tournament. We as a team take things one game at a time, but our primary goal is to reach the NCAA tournament and win it.

Brian: Hi Will. Which of your former teammates were especially heplful in your developement, both as a player and a leader? Thanks and good luck the rest of the way.

Will Daniels: Brian - All of my former teammates have helped me along the way. But two stick out in my mind: Dawan Robinson and Randy Brooks. Dawan taught me about leading by example and Randy has taught me more about playing at the Division I level and how to be more of a vocal leader.

section104: Will, It's been awesome to see you mature over the years. How was your experience at the Lebron camp this past summer? Do you see it helping your draft status come draft time?

Will Daniels: 104 - it was a great experience to be at the LeBron camp and play amongst some elite college players - Jon Scheyer from Duke, KC Rivers from Clemson, Scottie Reynolds from Nova and Jason Thompson at Rider. LeBron playing with/against us also helped. A camp like that can only help you in the long run.

URIGONZO: Hi Will, As a team leader is it difficult to get the team up and ready during A-10 play?? It seems like URI now has a target on its back and every game from here on out will be a tough one, especially road wins. Personally I feel a huge burden lies on your chest as the team leader to not only get yourself ready for these tough games night in and night out, but you must also make sure your teamates are ready to rumble.

Will Daniels: Gonzo - no, it's not difficult to get the team up for A-10 play. The entire team is determined and motivated and knows what it's going to take to achieve our goals.

keaney blue: Hey Will congrats on a great start this season. On the same lines as PlayerNumber6, it looks like GW had everything going at you in an attempt to get you into foul trouble. Did you get that feeling?

Will Daniels: keaneyblue - GW is an aggressive team that attacks a lot. So it's easy to get called for cheap fouls. We've been working in practice on doing a better job with team defense, which should help with that problem.

RHODY 09: Will, congrats on the great season so far. What do you guys plan to do differently on Saturday to prepare for the big rematch against Dayton?

Will Daniels: Rhody09 - I think we have to play better defense than we did out there. Do a better job containing and contesting shots, and limiting their strength as a team. Dayton is one of the best teams in the league and we need to bring it on Saturday.

RhodyFanForLife: You’ve improved every year since you’ve been at Rhode Island, going from a skinny freshman to one of the top players in the league. What has helped you improve over the years?

Will Daniels: RhodyFanforLife - I dedicated myself to lifting weights and working out. I also make sure I get my time in the gym to get shots up and practice. Experience has a lot to do with it, because you know what to expect every season.

drose: You guys have taken over as "the team" in Rhode Island. How important was the victory over Providence to you and to the rest of the team?

Will Daniels: drose - It was an important win because it's an in-state rivalry game and it meant a lot to us and our fans. It's always good to beat a team in the Big East, which gets a lot of national exposure.

Sam Worthen: Alright, alright. Will you are having a great season. Who is your favorite pro player?

Will Daniels: Sudden Sam - I don't have one favorite pro, but I like different aspects of different players games. I like Kobe's leadership, how a guy like LeBron dominates but keeps his teammates involved. Kevin Garnett has a warrior's determination.

URIHoopsFan: Hi Will, what has been the most memorable game in your Rhode Island career?

Will Daniels: URIHoopsfan - Wow...good question. I'd have to say the win at Syracuse this year because it showed how hard we had to fight through adversity, nobody expected us to win against a program like Syracuse in an arena like the Carrier Dome that had 22,000 Orange fans. It was the third Big East team we beat this year, so we celebrated in the locker room after the win which made it even more special.

GandysFantasy: have you ever met some of the ram greats from the past - cat mobley, tyson, sly, lamar etc

Will Daniels: Gandy - I know Tyson, he plays with us in the offseason. I've always been a fan of and wanted to meet Cuttino Mobley and Lamar Odom. Hopefully I'll get the chance someday.

URIHoopsFan: Will, why do you wear #25?

Will Daniels: URIHoopsfan - My two favorite numbers are 21 and 5, and when I got here, Scott Hazleton had 21 and Dawan had 5, so I picked 25 to compliment them both.

redfoxes2005: As a long time season ticket holder I just want to let you know how much enjoyment the team has provided this season. Games are so much fun that I hope we get to see many more this season (post season too !!) My question to you is what is a typical game day like for you. What do you do and how do you prepare for that nights game. Thanks and continued success the rest of the way. GO RHODY !!

Will Daniels: redfoxes - We have the same routine on every gameday. Shootaround is very important, pre-game meal is important but the most important thing is getting a good amount of rest before the game.

GandysFantasy: Will, let's have a prediction - Giants vs Pats?

Will Daniels: Gandy - Pats win, but it'll be close.

marc: Hey Will, great year so far. How do you and the team feel about the upcoming dayton game?

Will Daniels: marc - We play Richmond tomorrow night. That's our only focus - one game at a time.

Bruce: Will: Of all the A-10 arenas, which is your favorite to play in (beside the Ryan Center, of course) and which is your least favorite to play in?

Will Daniels: Bruce - My favorite road arena is Xavier, even though the fans get on you the whole time, it's a great atmosphere to play a game. I don't have a least favorite.

Chris: Will, I graduated in 2006 and miss making it to every game as I once did. Was it disappointing getting dropped from the top 25..and is that extra motivation for you and the team?

Will Daniels: Chris - yes, it was disappointing to drop from the top 25 polls. But it is extra motivation for the team to work harder and try to get back in.

thatdamram1: will, i really like the focus that this team has. what do you do as an individual to keep your focus, any superstitions?

Will Daniels: thatdamram - I remember our team goals whenever I start to lose focus. I realize that bad things can happen whenever you start to lose focus. As senior leaders, myself, Parfait and Joe have to be the most focused on the team - there's no next year for us. I don't have any superstitions.

Rhody74: Hi Will .... the team seems to be especially close this year. Is that true? If so, how important is that to your team's success?

Will Daniels: Rhody74 - Good question. The team is closer this year than in years past. It plays a lot in our success and our motto this year is "brotherhood" and to treat every individual on the team like a brother.

Sam Worthen: Alright, alright. With the A10 having a great season, how many teams do you see dancing in March (besides the mighty Rams)?

Will Daniels: Sam - I think that the league is as tough as it's ever been in my four years here. I expect there to be a good number of teams happy on selection sunday. We're working hard, every day, to make sure we're one of them.

Rhodewarrior: outside of yourself who do you find to be the best player in the A-10?

Will Daniels: Rhodewarrior - I'd say Brian Roberts from Dayton, my boy Ahmad Nivins from St. Joe's, Gary Forbes at UMass, Dionte Christmas at Temple is really good. And there are many others. The A-10 has a lot of good players.

GandysFantasy: Will, you committed to URI over 4 years ago. Have your expectations been met, here in Kingston? How good has the "URI experience" been for you?

Will Daniels: Gandy - The URI experience has been great. I established a lot of relationships with many people and it's helped me mature as a man. Coach B preached it before I got here, and pretty much every day since, about the importance of earning your degree and graduating. I'm proud to be on track to graduate in May.

thatdamram1: will, who is the guy that you would least like to play "horse" with on this team?

Will Daniels: thatdamram - Jimmy. No question.

RHODY 09: Will, you are obviously a huge powerhouse within the team's dynamic on the court, both with your playing and leadership abilities. Who do you see stepping up next year to take over this role?

Will Daniels: Rhody09 - With me, Parfait and Joe moving on, I see Jimmy and Kahiem stepping into a senior leadership role. They're already leaders on the team, and that should continue into next year.

Will Daniels: It's getting close to wrap up time, so I'll take one or two more questions.

Rhodewarrior: Whose idea was it to put that slogan on the back of uniforms. While self explanatory in nature what exactly is the genesis and what is it that you believe in?

Will Daniels: RhodeWarrior - "Together We Believe" came from Kahiem Seawright. It basically means that as a team, if we want to achieve our goals, we have to do it together.

uri07: Will, when you started here as a freshman I could see and told everyone that you would end up a big time player at URI. Early on with the team struggling the first few years did you ever feel like it wasn't going to happen here

Will Daniels: URI07 - When I joined the URI program, I always had confidence that we would be a good team and establish ourselves. With hard work, dedication, and believing in ourselves, we've become a team to reckoned with.

Will Daniels: Thanks to everyone who stopped by to chat. I had fun talking with you all and I hope you continue to support our team. Don't forget that Parfait will be chatting on Thursday as well (on ESPN.com) - be sure to ask him some tough questions! Go Rhody!

U.S. diplomat, son of Globe columnist Bob Ryan, found dead in Pakistan

By Mike McDermott    Email

BOSTON (AP) - Keith Ryan, an American diplomat posted to Pakistan and the son of Boston Globe sports columnist Bob Ryan, has been found dead in his Islamabad residence.

Ryan, 37, apparently took his own life Monday just before a scheduled return to Maryland to visit his wife and 8-year-old triplets, the State Department said.

Pakistani authorities are still investigating the death.

"As anyone who has been confronted with the suicide of a family member can tell you, the only word to describe the sensation is devastated," Bob Ryan, who returned to the Boston area from Arizona where he had been covering the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, said in an obituary posted on the Globe's Web site. "We will always have questions."

Ryan was an attache for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

Ryan previously worked for the Border Patrol and the Immigration and Naturalization Service where he was assigned to the violent gang task force.

"Mr. Ryan was a well-respected, trusted, and longtime member of the U.S. Mission in Pakistan," the U.S. Embassy in Pakistan said in a statement. "His death is a great loss. He will be sorely missed by all who have known and worked with him here in Pakistan."

Bob Ryan remembered his son for his academic determination and conservative political outlook that helped lead him to a career in government service. Keith Ryan was a graduate of Hingham (Mass.) High School, Trinity College in Connecticut, the London School of Economics and Boston College Law School.

In addition to his father, Keith Ryan leaves behind his wife of 12 years, Kate; his children, Conor, John, and Amelia; his mother, Elaine, and sister, Jessica.

Funeral and memorial arrangements are pending.

"I know that we join everyone who knows Bob in expressing our deepest sorrow at his loss," Globe publisher Steven Ainsley said in a statement. "The thoughts and prayers of all Globe employees, past and present, are with him and his family."

The Boston Red Sox today agreed to terms with righthanded pitcher Kyle Snyder on a one-year, non-guaranteed contract for the 2008 season. No further terms were disclosed.

The agreement was announced by Executive Vice President/General Manager Theo Epstein.

Adamonis up, Quigley out at Buick

By Paul Kenyon    Email

The three Rhode Islanders scheduled to play in this week's PGA Tour event, the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines in San Diego, had very different days today.

Tour rookie Brad Adamonis continued his strong start, firing a 6-under 66 on the North Course to tie for second place, one behind leader Troy Matteson. Tiger Woods, playing the South Course, the layout that will be used for this year's U.S. Open, is among those in a tie for third at 67.

Warwick's Patrick Sheehan also played the South Course and shot a 73, which left him in a tie for 74th.

Barrington's Brett Quigley, who was scheduled to make his seasonal debut, had to withdraw. He had a cyst on his spine lanced and was unable to play.

As it is, Quigley has been out since September after surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee. He will play the early part of the year on a medical exemption. He won more than $700,000 but finished about $63,000 out of the top 125. If Quigley earns $63,000 in his first six events, he will regain full playing privileges.

Revolution sign Franchino; Noonan to Norway

9:59 AM Thu, Jan 24, 2008 | | Write the first comment
By Mike McDermott    Email

FOXBORO, Mass. - The New England Revolution today announced that veteran midfielder/defender Joe Franchino has re-signed with Major League Soccer to play for the Revolution and that the club has reorganized its athletic training staff.

The Revolution also announced that forward Pat Noonan has transferred overseas to Norwegian club Aalesund.

Franchino, 31, is a 10-year MLS veteran and is entering his eighth full season in New England having joined the club midway through the 2000 season from Los Angeles. Franchino has played in 210 career MLS games, including 161 with the Revolution. In his career, he has scored five goals and added 23 assists, playing mainly on the left side of the midfield or at left back. Franchino has been a member of five teams that have played for the MLS Cup championship, and started for New England in three of its trips to the league’s championship game (2002, 2005, 2006).

“Joe has been a staple with this club since he arrived and has been a leader on and off the field,” Revolution director of soccer Michael Burns said. “We’re pleased we’ll have Joe back around the club again this season after he worked so hard to rehab from surgery last year.”

The Revolution has hired Sean Kupiec, A.T.C., P.E.S., as the team’s head athletic trainer and created a new position for Wayne Penniman, P.T., A.T.C., CSCS, as the team’s rehabilitation specialist.

Kupiec joins the Revs from the New England Patriots, where he has spent the last two seasons as the Pats’ athletic training intern. Kupiec will oversee all aspects of the team’s medical care and sports performance, both in-season and during the off-season. Kupiec is also recognized as a performance enhancement specialist by the National Academy of Sports Medicine. He will officially join the Revolution after Super Bowl XLII, which will be played on Sunday, Feb. 3.

Penniman, who spent the 2007 Revs season as the team’s athletic trainer, will now focus on the team’s rehabilitation needs after injuries and surgeries. He will work with Kupiec and the team’s physicians to help players return to the field as soon as possible after suffering injuries, utilizing both his physical therapy and strength and conditioning background.

“The opportunity arose where we could expand our sports medicine staff," Burns said. “Wayne’s new position is unique in MLS and is a great utilization of his expertise and experience, and Sean has received excellent training with the organization the last few years. We’re glad that our players will benefit from this strengthened medical staff on a day-to-day basis.”

Noonan, 27, played five seasons for the Revs after being drafted in the first round (ninth overall) by the team in the 2003 MLS SuperDraft. He appeared in 119 games in New England, starting 110, and scored 37 goals and added 29 assists while helping the team reach three consecutive MLS Cup championship matches. He left the club ranked third in both career goals and career assists. Noonan will reunite with former Revs goalkeeper Adin Bown at Aalesund.

“We want to thank Pat for his tremendous service to the organization during his career,” Burns said. “He is a model professional who was a big factor in our recent success. We wish Pat the best of luck in his new endeavor overseas.”

The Revolution begins the 2008 season at 7:30 p.m. on March 29 when the team hosts the Houston Dynamo at Gillette Stadium in a rematch of MLS Cup 2007. Fox Soccer Channel will televise the game nationally, and tickets to the match are available through the purchase of 2008 season tickets or special First Kick four-packs.
