URI to announce new football coach Tuesday; Maine's Carothers withdraws name
The University of Rhode Island will announce its new football coach at a press conference Tuesday afternoon at the Ryan Center.
Maine's Jack Cosgrove has withdrawn his name from consideration, according to a report from the Associated Press. Late last week, Pete Adrian decided to remain as head football coach at Norfolk State, where he was 8-3 and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference coach of the year this season.
Adrian and Cosgrove are two of four candidates who visited URI last week to explore the job, which became available when Tim Stowers was fired Nov. 19. The others were Darren Rizzi, associate head coach at Rutgers and an All-America tight end at URI, and Robert Talley, head coach at Division II Stonehill.
