Projo SoxTalk with McAdam: More gloom and doom
Head over to the SoxBlog to listen to today's edition of projo SoxTalk with Sean McAdam, and read excerpts from the conversation. The topics: letting the division slip away; keeping Clay Buchholz on a pitch count; the eighth inning is the worst inning; that clutch-hitting machine, Russ Adams; good news on the injury front; and what's really going on with Manny.

It's appalling to me that the Sox are not giving the division title their best effort. All the years I've been a Sox fan, I've never been more embarrased. They slump to make the race close and talk about why they won't be trying to win. Why not be defiant and determined instead of sounding like quitters?
They are professionals who are supposed to be accountable. When players don't perform, they should be replaced by players who will. Lugo doesn't run out a grounder that could tie the game -- he should be sat down. Wakefield is gettng creamed -- put him in the bullpen. Gagne blows every close situation -- don't put him in those. This is what the Yankees do -- hold peple accountable. Mussina doesn't pitch well as a starter -- replace him with someone who will.
Losing the division isn't the problem -- it's the sudden rationalization of why they won't be trying their best.
