A first for the Deutsche Bank

Good morning on another absolutely glorious day at the golf course.

We have something new today, a traffic report. I’ve been to every day of every event in the five years of the Deutsche Bank Championship and it has never taken more than a few extra minutes to get the last three miles off Route 495 because of traffic problems. Not until today, that is.

Just now, it took over a half hour to go the final three miles.

As we speak, traffic is backed up on Route 140, where the course is located, up the half-mile long Exit 11 on Route 495 that most use to get to the parking lots at the Tweeter Center, and onto Route 495 itself. It will be interesting to see if that means a bigger crowd or if everyone is just arriving at the same time.

For what it’s worth, scoring conditions are fine. Rocco Mediate, one of those on the FedEx cup bubble, already has finished a third-round 66 that he capped with an eagle on the final hole. That lifts Mediate into a tie for 22nd right now and all but clinches a spot for him in the third round of the playoffs in Chicago next week. He currently is 65th and the top 70 move on.

Will McKenzie, another bubble boy (he is 74th) is 5-under for the day through 16 holes, vaulting him into a tie for 17th as of now.
