PawSox 5, Chiefs 4
The Pawtucket Red Sox scratched out a ninth inning run on two walks, a hit batsman and a game-winning single by Joe McEwing to beat off the Syracuse Chiefs, 5-4, Saturday night. Read Kevin McNamara's game story on projo.com's SoxBlog.

I hate to say this, but I don't think McEwing's gets a hit on the game's final play, because the second out of the inning, a force out, was recorded at third base on the play. That makes it a fielder's choice, not a hit.
I was at the game, and as I remember the play, McEwing was up with one out in the ninth with the bases loaded. McEwing's ball fell in front of the centerfielder, who picked it up and threw to third base for a force out on the runner. The umpire clearly (and correctly) signaled an out. An out was recorded on the play, so that makes it a fielder's choice, not a hit, regardless of whether the runner scored before the out was recorded.
Because, if for some reason one of the other base runners had also been napping, the Chiefs could have thrown the ball to second base for still another force out and a double play, and the winning run would not have counted. I know everyone wants to give him a hit on this play, but you can't, because a force out was recorded at third base on the play.
It is still the game-winning RBI though, and a great ball game.
