Parkhurst among three Revs named to All-Star team
Three New England Revolution players -- R.I. native Michael Parkhurst, midfielder Shalrie Joseph and goalkeeper Matt Reis -- were named to the MLS All-Star First XI today. The All-Star team will be coached by the Revs' Steve Nicol and will face Scottish Premier League champions Celtic FC on July 19 in Colorado.
It is another honor on a rapidly-growing resume for the Cranston-raised defender; last month, Parkhurst made his debut with the senior U.S. men's National team as it won its second straight CONCACAF Gold Cup. This is his second all-star berth.
Reis will be making his third straight appearance in the midseason exhibition, while Joseph was selected for the fourth straight year.
The First XI players are determined by online fan balloting comprising 25 percent of the total vote, with MLS coaches and general managers (25 percent), media (25 percent) and players (25 percent) accounting for the remainder.
On Tuesday, Nicol and his staff will choose five additional All-Stars, and commissioner Don Garber will tab two more, making a final 18-man roster.
