CVS Caremark Charity Classic pairings announced

BARRINGTON - Billy Andrade and Brad Faxon are splitting up again for the CVS Caremark Charity Classic. Andrade will partner with a Hall of Famer while Faxon will combine with the new Masters champion for this year’s tournament.

Pairings for the 10 two-player teams for the ninth classic, to be held June 17-19 at Rhode Island Country Club, were released today.

Andrade will partner with Lee Trevino to form what likely will be the most outgoing team in the event. Trevino, who has won 58 events on the PGA and Champions Tours, will be making his tournament debut.

Faxon will combine with Zach Johnson, the Masters champion who last week also won the AT&T Classic in Atlanta.

Natalie Gulbis and Juli Inkster, the first women to take part in the $1.35-million event, will play as a team, as previously announced. They have been paired with Peter Jacobsen and Sean O’Hair for the opening round.

Other pairings include two-time CVS champion Chris DiMarco combining with Camilo Villegas; U.S. Ryder Cuppers Stewart Cink and J.J. Henry playing as a team; and the international team of Jesper Parnevik and K.J. Choi.

Tim Clark and Nick Price will return to defend the title they won last year, David Toms will combine with Trevor Immelman, and Dana and Brett Quigley will play together on the course where they grew up.

Concerns about the RICC course no longer are a factor.

The RICC layout underwent a major renovation program, designed the rid the course of invasive phragmites plants that had overgrown the property, over the winter. The course was closed in October. The hope was to reopen June 1. As it is, everything has progressed so well that the course will reopen tomorrow.

Tentative plans had been to make 16 of the 18 holes available for play initially. The 12th and 13th holes, the final holes completed, were thought to need more time. However, all has gone so well that those holes, too, will be reopened tomorrow.

Tee times and pairings for the first round of the CVS:

10:30: Brett Quigley-Dana Quigley
K.J. Choi-Jesper Parnevik
10:40: Stewart Cink-J.J. Henry
Chris DiMarco-Camilo Villegas
10:50: Natalie Gulbis-Juli Inkster
Peter Jacobsen-Sean O’Hair
11:00: David Toms-Trevor Immelman
Brad Faxon-Zach Johnson
11:10: Nick Price-Tim Clark
Billy Andrade-Lee Trevino
