Short-handed Celts fall to Pacers, 105-98

INDIANAPOLIS — Mike Dunleavy scored 22 points and Jermaine O’Neal added 14 points and 14 rebounds, leading the Indiana Pacers to a 105-98 victory over the short-handed Boston Celtics on Saturday night.

The win kept Indiana within one game of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference behind Orlando, which beat Memphis on Saturday.

Allan Ray had 22 points and Sebastian Telfair scored 21 for the Celtics, who dressed only eight players. Paul Pierce (sore left elbow) was the biggest name on Boston’s long injured list.

Troy Murphy scored nine of his 16 points in the third quarter as the Pacers extended an eight-point halftime lead to 66-48 with 7 minutes left in the period.

With the help of eight Indiana turnovers in the fourth quarter, Boston cut the deficit to 90-84 following Ray’s layup with 4:40 remaining. But Keith McLeod had consecutive three-point plays to push Indiana’s lead back to 96-84.
