St. Andrew's Accoui verbally commits to play at Vermont
BARRINGTON - Joe Accoui, a senior shooting guard at the St. Andrews School, has verbally committed to play at the University of Vermont next year.
Accoui is a dangerous deep shooter who helped lead the Saints to two straight Class B New England Prep championships the last two seasons. Accoui visited Vermont the last two days and was offered a full scholarship by Catamount’s coach Mike Lonergan, according to Saints’ coach Mike Hart. Accoui becomes the second St. Andrews player to accept a scholarship from UVM. Garrett Kissell, a 6-8 center from Springfield, Mass., signed a letter-of-intent with the school last fall.
``It’s great for Joey and his family. He’s worked very hard for a Division One scholarship and he’s been a very good student and a good player for us,’’ said Hart.
Accoui, Kissell and Rakim Sanders (Boston College) are all targted fro D-I schools in the fall. Accoui, who is from North Providence, had heard from several D-I programs and was interested in Cornell and High Point, among others. Accoui and Sanders are believed to be the first set of Rhode Island residents and teammates to leave a high school in the Ocean State in the same year and receive Division One basketball scholarships.

Nice reward for all the hard work and a GREAT shooter. Kevin Mac incorrect -- there has been at least one set of RI resident, high school teammates to get D1 scholarships same year -- TJ Sorrentine (Vermont) and Carlos Morriera (Elon) both same class at St Raphael.
