How's your blizzard going?

10:58 a.m.
It's not deep -- 4 or 5 inches of fake Christmas snow with drifts. It's quiet, fine powder falling like delicate rain. Snow fog falling. And falling...

7:37 p.m.
"1 to 2 feet": The forecasters' discussion published at the National Weather Service in Taunton, Mass., is blunt:

Believe higher snow fall totals will occur along and SE of a bos-Pvd line, with a 1 to 2 feet snow total from bos-Pvd line SE to upper Cape. North And west of this line lesser amounts of 8 to 14 inches. then there is the ack dilemma...
snowmankit.gifYeah, he really said "the ack dilemma"... full moon, too.

Their official forecast for Providence (at 7:15) is 12 to 16 inches.

The grocery stores were busy today, lots of party stuff in the carts -- dips and sushi and cheese and chips.

The 8-year-old is getting out The Snowman Kit he got for Christmas.

We're well-stocked, and this old house has a gas-fired boiler and thermostat that needs no electricity.

FEMA jokes.

Valentine's weekend, we're getting snowed in here, starting 'round midnight.

Feel free to blog about the storm where you are in the comments --- the link is below.

This is the snow version of a chigger bite but, unlike a chigger bite, this should be gone by Wednesday when the temps hit the upper forties. (Most New Englanders don't know about chiggers - Be glad...be very glad!)

So far, in Pawtucket, this hasn't even been much of a snowstorm, much less a blizzard. It's kind of like the 2006 Super Bowl of weather events with bad officiating, boring play, but the saving grace of no bad music.

This is a tricky storm. It started here yesterday around noon as rain, then by two pm turned into snow. When I went to bed last night 4 inches had accumlated, then it got nasty. Woke up this morning with a foot.
At noontime it's sunny and cold around 28.
This is south of you folks in Washington DC.

Sleepy day, nice. We're watching a pay-per-view movie -- The Constant Gardener, my daughter's choice.

We're probably up to about 8 inches now, Alan on the Providence-Pawtucket line. Hard to tell, with the drifting and pits.

Lou, official forecast is saying 1 to 2 feet now. Forecast discussion is offline:

Just enough snow to keep us in. Playing 500 rummy with my husband. He won but he tries to make up his own rules.

I'd be a lot happier had I gotten my Sunday Journal.

As a former Rhode Islander, I hear comments about our "blizzard" in KY. They talk about getting 3 possibly 4 inches...like that's something. I tell them...in RI they talk in feet, not inches. ha-ha. God bless all of you in the "feet" of snow. I am glad we got only an inch.

Thanks, Sue, but this was an easy one for us. We only got about 10 inches of light, fluffy powder, so the power stayed on and people were out walking around in it. It finally felt like winter for a day, but we're heading back to the high 40s later in the week. This isn't a winter like the ones you remember. It's been balmy, with only short cold spells.
