| Born July 4, a reader remembers birthdays in a wilder R.I. »
Me today, America tomorrow. Some of my earliest memories involve sparklers, and fireworks in the sky as everybody celebrated with me. We're starting the party with three generations heading for a South County beach. We'll figure out which one along the way. We go to the beach so seldom, we're not equipped. We'll be the city-pale people on king-size sheets with faded bath towels. Memories of sunburns past on my birthdays make me think a stop for a beach umbrella could avoid a world of hurt tonight. I want to jump in the ocean in the morning, leave the beach when it gets hot, have a beer and a lobster at a clam shack and be back in town before everybody else starts heading where we just came from. Tonight, fireworks of course. Light a sparkler if you have one.
