The field, which includes defending champion and two-time Australian Olympian Craig Mottram, features seven athletes - Carroll is one of them - with sub-28:00 10,000-meter track times who will be competing for the $20,000 in prize money reserved for the top eight male finishers, including $7,500 to the winner.

Other Olympians racing will be 2004 U.S. Olympian Anthony Famiglietti, Mohamed Amyn of Morocco, Dejene Berhanu of Ethiopia, John Henwood of New Zealand and Viktor Röthlin of Switzerland. Andrew Letherby of Australia and Matt Downin of the United States will also be pushing the pace.

“The addition of Mark, Anthony, and four other Olympians to the race further raises the caliber of this world-class field,” said New York Road Runners president and CEO Mary Wittenberg. “This will be no stroll in the Park for Mottram and we are sure to witness an exhilarating finish.”

Carroll -- Ireland’s record-holder at 3,000 (7:30.36), 5,000 (13:03.93), and 10,000 (27:46.82) meters -- placed sixth at this event last year at 29:18. He finished first in the 5,000 at the 2006 Florida State Relays in 14:06.30.

``I am happy to be returning to compete against world-class competition on the always challenging Central Park circuit,” Carroll, 34, told the New York Road Runners. ``Competing in New York has always been a favorite challenge of mine."
