The Democrats are making their presence felt today in Rhode Island. U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign will hold an open house and rally for volunteers and supporters on today at 6 p.m. at the Rhode Island for Obama headquarters in the Heritage Building, 321 South Main Street, Suite 101, Providence. A "Change We Can Believe In" rally is planned for Obama supporters behind the Heritage Building at 6:20 p.m. Scheduled speakers include Lt. Gov. Elizabeth Roberts and R.I. Democratic Party Chairman William Lynch. Members of Rhode Island's congressional delegation and other Democratic statewide officers have been invited and are expected to attend. U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton -- Obama's main opponent in the Democratic primary contest -- will appear at an event today at the home of Alan Hassenfeld, chairman of the board at Pawtucket-based Hasbro Inc. Mark Weiner Sr., a top party fundraiser and confidante of Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton, said it is a fundraiser for Senator Clinton's political action committee, set for 1 p.m. at Hassenfeld's house in Bristol. The event is not sponsored by the party itself. |
