PROVIDENCE -- State House Room 140 is dark today. Its occupant for the last 17 years, Patricia Collins, died yesterday after a long battle with cancer, according to the governor's office. Collins, 63, of West Warwick, had served as the switchboard operator for the governor's office since May 12, 1991. She answered all calls placed to the governor's main number (currently 222-2080) under former Governors Bruce Sundlun and Lincoln Almond and now-Governor Carcieri. -- Steve Peoples of the Journal State House Bureau |
