U.S House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the first woman House speaker, visits Rhode Island next week for a series of events, including highlighting early childhood education, speaking to labor union members and raising money to help Democrats kep control of the House. The San Francisco Democrat is the keynote speaker July 18 at an early childhood education conference at a venue yet to be determined. She is also scheduled to speak at an event for Working Rhode Island, the organization financed by labor unions that lobbies on an array of labor and community issues, at the United Food and Commercial Workers union headquarters on Silver Spring Avenue in Providence. In the evening, Pelosi is the featured speaker at a fundraiser in Jamestown to harvest campaign cash for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the political arm of House Democrats. The money is used to help elect Democratic candidates to the House. Pelosi, a Baltimore native whose father was once mayor of that city, will be hosted by U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy and local Democrats. |
