Six representatives and the governor's director of legislative affairs visited the Inner City Hair Salon on Smith Street in Providence Wednesday with a common purpose -- to have their heads shaved. From left to right: Rep. Steven Smith (D-Providence), Rep. David Caprio (D-Narragansett), and Michael Cronan, of Smithfield, director of legislative affairs for the governor. The barbers are Ramone Thomas, left, and Gene Baker.

The gesture was to show support and respect for their House colleague Rep. Stephen Ucci (D-Johnston), who was diagnosed last November with Hodgkins Lymphoma and is undergoing chemotherapy at Rhode Island Hospital.

Ucci, 36, who is married and has a nine-month-old daughter, was "on the drip," as he puts it, while the others were being shaved. Ucci says the prognosis is good and that the tumor has already shrunk from "the size of my fist to the size of my finger."
