Giuliani won't be at Providence luncheon -- today

PROVIDENCE -- The owner of Pot au Feu today joked that he was sitting with former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani smoking cigars and drinking cognac.

But those who know Bob Burke would know his policy about sharing stories of what celebrities dine in his restaurant: “I could tell you but then I would have to kill you,” he joked with Journal food editor Gail Ciampa back in October when she wrote a story about which celebrities dine in area restaurants. He repeated that sentiment today with projo.com.

All joking aside, Burke said, Giuliani isn’t coming to his restaurant today, as was incorrectly reported in Monday's Political Scene – at least, he doesn’t expect him to be here.

“I will be the most surprised man in Rhode Island if Rudy Giuliani walks in today for a piece of my quiche,” Burke said. “There is an event here for the Giuliani campaign, and it is our understanding that there will be a visit in June. However, as of this moment, I am not expecting to see the former mayor of New York City step in my door, although I would be delighted to offer him a nice bowl of French onion soup and a steaming hot crepe -- and even the cognac if he wanted it.”

Giuliani, now a presidential candidate, is expected to appear at a luncheon fundraiser in Rhode Island on June 6.

Bob is about Bob! If Giuliani were to come to town and didn't eat at his restaurant, he would probably state that the former mayor of NYC wasn't in town.
