Thank God the bad casino is going down! Maybe the Democrat leaders in the general assembly will get it right next time. NOT!

I was leaning toward approving the casion, until I discovered Clare Eckert was working with the pro-casino side. Having such and unethical political insider working for the casino raised a red flag to me.

i didnt realize rhode island had 115122 idiots in it.

Janice Stevens said:

If the Casuno vote is rejected, then the people of RI have no one to blame but themselves and the two other RI Casino's will continue to make the fat cats even fatter. There will be no tax relief for the working class!!!! But we're used to that: after all, RI is known for its' corruption.

What a relief!

That's just great. highest taxes in the country.
Loved all those rich folks in the adds.

could someone tell me where all the cash HOME DEPOT brings in goes, how about, LOEWS, WALMART, TARGET, CVS, DICK'S ........oh you mean they do just what Harras was going to do without dropping taxes. great

It's a shame that Rhode Islanders would rather give their money to the state of CT. Taxes are high in R.I. that's why I moved to Florida.

Yes, actually every penny they bring in is taxed as is the income of every employee...........

You should never base an opinion solely on political ads, you should look into everything. There was no official agreement on how many taxes they would pay, they were hoping to be somewhat tax exempt, actually, while under the guise that they would "gift" part of it to the state. Mohegan sun does the same thing, and concidering they bring in $43 million a day, they make what they pay out to the state of CT in a few days.

I hope the proposal gets shut down

RI is a crooked state. No one cares about the working class citizen. RI is an expensive little dump of a state. There are no opportunities at all. It is the rat race state. Connecticut will always be a richer state. I feel bad for the tribe.

Bill T said:

Be real folks....In all your years have you ever seen property taxes go down...I haven't. And even if they did, when you divide the Harrah $$$$ by the number of people in this state you might have seen a $5 drop in your prop taxes...Thank goodness this didn't pass...and for all of you that wanted it and feel like we are just giving profit to CT...then fill up your gas tanks here before you travel to Foxwoods.

Now of course the state will open it's own casino to once again screw the Narragansetts

Very disappointing. I am saddened by the results. This casino would have brought in so much money for the state. It's all downhill from here.

Rich said:

It was a bad deal for RI and the people spoke!

You all make me happy I don't live in this shallow end of the gene pool anymore.. little rhody, little minds.

YEAHHH!!!!! Now stay away!

There are lots of good reasons to come to RI, we don't need to sell out.

Uh oh, I just noticed we approved all of the spending initiatives.

Well, there must be a better way to sell out than a casino. Maybe we can sell naming rights... Narragansett Bay could just as easily become Budweiser Bay, no?

It is upsetting to see that the casino was vetoed. There would have been jobs created...granted they probably would have been minimum wage jobs...but jobs at that. Also just the construction jobs alone. People on welfare that would spend there money at the casino are already spending that in Lincoln or Newport anyway. The Narragansetts are the poorest of the poor and wanted to do something on thier own land...then they had to resort to something like this. All I know is that Conn. can keep getting my money and we will continue to have other questions on our ballot about higher education bonds while Conn. does not.

Dear Indians,
build a casino on Indian Land,
with out amending R.I. Constitution.

Robert T said:

You people are a bunch if idiots. Apparently, the state with the highest cigarette tax, the highest sales tax and highest gasoline tax is ok. No relief in site with idiots in this state. Unbelievable to think people have awaken in Rhode Island

Robert T said:

I can not emphasize enough how disturbing this is. DO YOU IDOITS NOT REALIZE THAT THIS CORRUPT STATE DOES NOT WANT "ANOTHER" CASINO IN RHODE OTHER THEN THE LINCOLN PARK AND NEWPORT GRAND? THEY GET FAT ON THEM AND ALLOW SMOKING IN ONLY THEIR ESTABLISHMENTS AND GET RICHER AND RICHER AND WE GET NO RELIEF. ALL YOU FOLKS WHO ARE AGAINST ARE RICH STIFFS WHO COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THE FUTURE OF THIS STATE. LETS ALL SIT BACK AND WATCH PEOPLE DRIVE ON OUR ROADS TO CONN. AND SPEND NOTHING IN RHODE ISLAND. THIS WOULD HAVE HELPED OUT ALOT OF PEOPLE OTHER THEN THOSE RICH JERKS ON THE COMMERICALS. I NEVER HAVE CONDONED VIOLANCE BUT THIS IS RIDICULAS

Chris said:

Well its a good thing that the casino bill isn't going to be passed, especially when Harrahs never determined the exact amount that the State of Rhode would be getting, also for the people feeling bad for the Narragansett Indian tribe, yes they would've had a chance down the road to buy the casino from Harrahs but they never would've been able to afford it. We sure were looking at a great deal with this one.

paulina said:

Lets get the Indians back on the list that should be. Lets get a better deal for the Indians than 5%. Lets get the full deal ironed out not to be discussed in future between the Casino and the Government. How can anyone vote yes with so many unanswered or unfair dealings. I can't picture how Brown went for this unless there were other perks we are not aware of...who would have been on the board and such and the pay for those. Would some Indians profit alot more than others???? To many unanswer questions. Get a better deal and disclose all and you'll have a yes from me.

Mike said:

Now its time to rethink this casino. Place it on the Allens Ave waterfront where it belongs. ..Why does the tribe or Harrahs have to be cut in? The state should do it and keep 100% of the take. Perhaps hire Harrahs as a consultant and offer them 15% tops.

one of the highest per capita tax rates and per capita debt liabilities (every bond passed again? that's a joke) in the country... no real industries to speak of... highest gasoline tax in the country... its own captive gambling houses... maybe one day this pitiful, pathetic little socialist state of (too many) prejudiced, small minded, provincial people will be dragged kicking and screaming into the 20th, never mind the 21st, century.... nah, it'll never happen; it's too much fun being 100 years behind the times...

Steve said:

Thank God like-minded people had the foresight to see through the propaganda and deception and do the sensible thing on this issue. Good job once again, Rhode Island! It's nice to see you're not ALL a bunch of sheep with faux dollar signs in their eyes.

I am pleasantly surprised! RIers overall are smarter than I thought and were not suckered by Harrah's spin doctors (and they spent $12 MILLION)! (And if you don't know what a "spin doctor" is, look it up. Hint: They're not medical professionals or musicians.)

If the Indians want to build something, fine, but NOT 1/4 mile from homes and an elementary school! Yes, we need tax relief, but this was not the way to do it. (And BTW, if you think RI taxes are high, try living in NY. Try $10,000--yes, ten THOUSAND and always rising.) I'm happy and proud to be a RIer, more so today than yesterday! :)

"Let the people decide"?

Well, they did!

Cornelius said:

Chief Sachem Matthew Thomas has been insulting every public official and adversary in state for the last few years. Is it any wonder that that people voted against the casino. Hey chief -- people vote for folks they can trust - not someone who spends his time calling our elected leaders racists. Here's a clue for next time - it's not race its economics and location.
