Myrth York to appear at Chafee press conference

PROVIDENCE -- Former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Myrth York is scheduled to appear with U.S. Sen. Lincoln Chafee at a press conference later this afternoon.

In the 2002 primary election, York narrowly beat Chafee opponent Sheldon Whitehouse for the Democratic nomination for governor. York went on to lose to Governor Carcieri.

While the Chafee campaign isn't saying what will take place at today's press conference, the last time Chafee appeared with a prominent political figure with ties to the Democratic party, it was to announce an endorsement by former U.S. Attorney Meg Curran.

Check back with Political Scene to learn what happens at the 3 p.m. press conference, which will be held at the Federal Reserve restaurant on Dorrance Street.

Itis about time, Mirth York puts her hat in the ring for Chafee, considering the fact that Whitehouse didn't support York when she defeated him in the governortorial primary. Whitehouse lacks the cohesiveness of the democratic party.

Hahahahahahahhahahahahaha. . . That pretty much should seal Chafee's fate. We have "Myrth" and her lackluster political and campaigning skills to thank for the mess that is Governor Carcieri. Beat it York.

I find it pretty sad that Myrth York (a woman), would stand behind and support a man that has come right out, in his own "emergency press conference", of which this statement was printed in the Providence Journal: "New accusations, on Thursday, October 26, 2006 By Mike Stanton And Katherine Gregg" "When asked about Freitas’ domestic-abuse record, Chafee said: “Nobody’s perfect and he made some mistakes and paid the price. But I think the citizens of Rhode Island and Providence have to at least give him credit for the courage to do what he did....."

As a woman, this statement shows me that “Linc” has a lack of support, lack of integrity, and probably lack of knowledge regarding domestic abuse. “Linc” just dismissed a statement like that of a three time convicted domestic violence abuser as if it was of no concern to him. I don't care about whether a group is non-partisan or not, that is not the issue at hand here. The issue here is the statement was made by a Senator who represents the State of RI "including women" and is just totally unacceptable. To me, because he is an elected Senator, Myrth York should think about who she is giving her support to for the State of RI and not for her own petty grudges. I can't believe that “Mryth” would stoop to the level of supporting a man that thinks domestic abuse is ok!!!! Shame on her, SHAME ON HER!!!!!!! Why hasn't “Linc” been made to address this revolting statement? IT IS NOT OK TO ABUSE A WOMAN FOR ANY REASON!!!! Just because it is an election year woman are fair game? Obviously this statement shows how much of an issue this is to a man who is representing women, including Myrth York, in the Senate. A man who makes a statement like that for his own political agenda needs a lesson about how deeply those words cut and in no way should the women of RI let that statement be accepted and vote to have this man represent us in the US Senate. Linc Chafee needs to know just what his inconsiderate statement means to all the woman in RI! Domestic abuse is OK? Since "he paid his price”? No man who hits a woman can ever pay the price.
