UMass casino researcher heading to Vegas
University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth Prof. Clyde W. Barrow, who has done several studies about the benefits of the West Warwick casino proposed by Harrah’s Entertainment, is heading to Las Vegas next month to speak at the National Center for Responsible Gaming’s annual conference on “gambling and addiction.”
The event is being held at one of the casinos Harrah’s owns, the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, and Harrah’s is one of the event’s sponsors.
The Las-Vegas based gambling company is the host sponsor, according to the conference Web site. Harrah’s is also connected with the National Center for Responsible Gaming.
According to that group’s Web site, Boyd Gaming provided start-up money and “Harrah’s Entertainment Inc., International Game Technology, Mandalay Resort Group, MGM MIRAGE and Park Place Entertainment Corporation were early and generous supporters.”
