Sen. Clinton to stop by 1025 Club for Whitehouse
JOHNSTON -- U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, former first lady and possible 2008 presidential candidate, is the latest political star scheduled to visit to the Ocean State on behalf of Democratic Senate candidate Sheldon Whitehouse.
The New York Democrat -- whose visit comes eight days after her husband, former President Bill Clinton, stumped for Whitehouse at a Democratic fundraiser in Providence -- will speak at another Democratic fundraiser inside Lombardi's 1025 Club, 1025 Plainfield St., tomorrow night.
Security will be tight, according to the Whitehouse campaign. "For security purposes, all guests and members of the media must remain seated throughout Senator Clinton’s remarks, until she has left the room," reads a notice issued to the media about the visit.
On the Republican side of the fence, U.S. Sen. John McCain of Arizona has visited Rhode Island twice this year on the behalf of Whitehouse's opponent, U.S. Sen. Lincoln Chafee. And First Lady Laura Bush stopped by the Providence Biltmore hotel for Chafee in May.
