With 372 of 515 precincts reporting, according to state figures, Sheldon Whitehouse was pulling in 45,270 votes, or 81.88 percent, over his challengers, Christopher F. Young, with 5,850 votes, or 10.58 percent, and Carl L. Sheeler, 4,168, or 7.54 percent, for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate race.
