The new definition of 'a real man'

Who says real men have gone the way of the Neanderthal?

Steve Wilder of Omaha hasn't been sissified by a society that no longer values machismo.

Waking up one night unable to breathe and concerned (I won't say this guy was "afraid") that he'd die, Wilder grabbed a steak knife and gave himself a tracheotomy, the Associated Press reports.

In other words, he woke up in the middle of the night, and cut a hole in his windpipe so he could breathe.

Could you do that?

His story reminds me of the mountain climber who had to cut off part of his arm to free himself after getting pinned under a rock.

That guy was a real man, too.

And sadly, by these standards, I don't think I could qualify.
