Woonsocket police charge teen with raping toddler

WOONSOCKET -- Authorities in Woonsocket say a 17-year-old boy beat, bit and raped a 2-year-old girl he was baby-sitting.

Police say the alleged incident occurred on Sunday and the boy was arrested early Monday morning after the child's mother called 911.

Lt. Timothy Paul says the teenager, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, is being held pending a hearing to be held in Family Court no later than Friday.

The child was left in the care of the suspect by her 24-year-old mother, who is also the teen's girlfriend.

The child was taken to a hospital where doctors found bruises and bite marks on her body as well as evidence of a sexual assault.

The teen is charged with first-degree sexual assault by means of forcible rape and first-degree child abuse.

Oh my god, that poor baby. I hope the 17 year old is charged as an adult...he needs to be put away for life...people who sexually assault children don't change. And the mother...what does a 24 year old young woman have in common with a 17 year old boy? What were you thinking? Did you really think a 17 year old (kid) would be mature enough to enter into any kind of relationship with a ready made family. We really need to teach more about psychology and relationship development in school.

What the heck is a 24 year old woman doing with a 17 year old boy? She should also be charged. How long have they been together? Does he have a history of being a sex offender? If so, why was he allowed around a toddler unsupervised.

24 year old mother, 17 year old boyfriend beats and rapes 2 year old. What is the matter with people? Both mother and boyfriend do not deserve to see outside of prison for a long, long time to come.hl8tm

That is terrible both should be charged and she is probably guilty also since the boy is only 17 if they are sexually involved she is also guilty of rape since he isn't of age. He should be tried as an adult at 17 you know right from wrong she was only a baby and was put thru such a horrible torture. The mother should also be charged she is just as guilty.

Any why isn't the woman being charged with statutory rape for having a 17 year old boyfriend? If this was reversed the 24 year old male would have been stuffed in the same cruiser as the perp.

Expect to see more and more of this as the kids you let be raised by TV and the internet grow up to be soulless, hollow beings with no concepts of right and wrong.

Statutory rape aka 3rd degree sexual assault in RI is for 16 and under, not 17.

Although the mother's relationship with the boy was most likely inappropriate, what criminal act did she commit? Unfortunately, bad parenting is not a punishable offense.

I can hear the defense attorney now saying "she hired a bad babysitter"

Sure, the mother is probably a complete loser, and the guy needs to go to prison forever, but please get your facts together before formulating your argument instead of wasting my time with your garbage opinions of the law.

I cannot believe this, that poor little girl, what she must of went through. A 17 year old boy with a 24 year old girl, sounds like this thing happens regularly in that household.

"ClearThinker", if you're worried about wasted time maybe reading the ProJo blog doesn't fit into your busy schedule.

facts together ClearThinker? Sorry we are all so misinformed and under the radar to your intelligence and busy schedule. 17 is 17, and it is clearly inappropriate.

Maybe you have been involved with a person in a relationship where you were clearly underage or they were?

Greg just put you on the spot. Are you checking this blog while at work? naughty naughty.

This kid should have the book thrown at him. Bite marks? get out of society faster than you can say "uncle" you sick, twisted piece of...
