Westerly cop struck, injured by suspect fleeing bar fight
WESTERLY -- A Westerly police officer is recovering after being struck and injured by a man fleeing the scene of a bar fight.
Westerly police say Cpl. Larry Silvestri fired one shot at the man's vehicle late last night. The unidentified man drove off, but was stopped and arrested a short time later across the border in Stonington, Conn.
Silvestri was treated for minor injuries at Westerly Hospital and released. Police say no one was injured when he fired at the suspect.
The man is being held by Stonington police on charges of driving while intoxicated and being a fugitive from justice.

I was just wondering why the city of Pawtucket seems to think the streets need sweeping every week. At a time when the price of fuel is so high and everywhere there are budget deficits, wouldn't it make more sense to provide better care for the elderly or lower income families. It also seems that law enforcement would be better spending their time trying to prevent youth violence than writing tickets for parking during street sweeping hours. Also where does this money go? It certainly does not go into snow removal, or programs to keep kids out of trouble.
Thanks, Mike
