Champlin Marina expansion could be stalled long term
PROVIDENCE -- It looks like Champlin’s Marina is going to go through another summer season on Block Island without being able to move ahead on its controversial expansion plans.
Superior Court Judge Netti C. Vogel closed out a hearing this afternoon questioning the behavior of yet another state official who took part in the vote two years ago that blocked the marina’s expansion plans.
She then laid out a scheduled for filing briefs and replies by the two sides that will go into early summer. Beyond that, the judge will need time to read all of the legal arguments and fashion a decision.
She has already said she may throw out the 5-5 council vote in February 2006 because of the numerous allegations of irregularities in the way members of the Coastal Resources Management Council behaved during two years of hearings.
The application to expand into four additional acres of Great Salt Pond has grown into the biggest and most controversial issue for the coastal council in a long time.
