Delivery man injured at work site

PROVIDENCE -- A delivery man was seriously injured late this morning when he fell in a building on the Johnson & Wales campus, according to the Providence Fire Department.

The victim, who has not been named, was delivering paint to the former Watkins Building, which is undergoing reconstruction, at 274 Pine Street this morning, according to Paul Thomas, the acting deputy assistant chief at the Providence Fire Department.

The delivery man was walking up a stairwell, Thomas said, when he made a wrong move, falling about 20 feet.

“It’s an unusual twist on an industrial accident,” Thomas said, since the injured party wasn’t a member of the construction team.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with what authorities called “severe” head injuries. No additional information about his condition is currently available.
