Woman charged with leaving crash scene, death resulting

PROVIDENCE -- A 26-year-old Providence woman has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident, death resulting, after the police said a 54-year-old man was struck and killed early Saturday morning.
The police said that Shana Lee, of 63 Salmon St., Apt. 303, told them that she has been driving the rental car that night but did not realize she had struck anybody.

There was periodic, heavy rainfall that night.

Adolfo Gonzalez was pronounced dead shortly after he was found on the 900 block of Atwells Avenue.

Lee is scheduled for arraignment in District Court, Providence, tomorrow.

The car was found by Patrolman Thomas Connetta behind Hillcrest Apartments, 40 Leander St., at about 10 a.m. today, according to Sgt. Paul F. Xienowicz. Deputy Police Chief Paul Kennedy described the location as a dumping ground for stolen vehicles.

The gray 2008 Dodge Avenger had hood and windshield damage consistent with the victim’s injuries, according to the police. The police said they traced the vehicle to the person who rented it, Lee. The police are still trying to obtain a search warrant.

Did she think the hood and windshield damage was caused by the 'heavy'rain? And why did she dump the car then? Did she skimp on the rental insurance? Her excuse is pathetic.
This is very sad. A man lost his life and now his poor family has to contend with the fact that this person treated him like he didn't matter. Her actions are inexcusable.
My deepest sympathy and prayers to his family.

Didnt think she hit anything!? As this car was possibly involved in the accident it would be 30+ hrs. since the accident and it's being discovered. The rental person lives less than a 1/2 mile from the accident site and the damaged vehicle is an additional 1/2 mile further from site. When was the rental person Ms. Lee going to notice her rental car was missing and had been damaged!?. Innocent til proven guilty perhaps but it looks very bad for Ms. Lee.I pray the family of Mr. Gonzalez will find peace. And the person or persons involved in his tragic death are brought to justice asap.

I would like to say that it is very very disgusting that this woman would say what she said to the police when she is guilty of what happend. She fled the schene and to top it off, she also tried hiding the vehicle. anyone with information about this can communicate with me via email ASAP! I am a family member of this man and would like to speak to someone regarding this. This is no joke...I am in close contact with other family as well and we do want justice for what happend.
