Station fund concert raises nearly $200,000

The Phoenix Rising concert to benefit the Station Family Fund sold more than 4,000 tickets and, with the help of donations from sponsors and the artists, raised nearly $200,000, according to Todd King, a board member of the fund and co-organizer of the concert at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center last night.

“I’m speechless,” King said.

King added that all musical merchandise not sold last night would be displayed at various locations of Daddy’s Junky Music Stores and sold to benefit the fund.

And the higher profile won’t stop there. The music cable channel VH1 was at the concert, filming the show and interviews with the artists and fire survivors for a one-hour documentary on the aftermath of the fire, to be aired on Easter weekend.

King hopes the national exposure will focus renewed attention, and money, on the fund’s efforts to meet the medical and other needs of those injured in the West Warwick nightclub fire, and thinks that the fund has turned a corner.

“We’ve found our voice,“ King said.

I attended the concert and it was quite the success. All of the artists from the Rock and Country world combined donated their time, energy and even more, many making donations, and VH-1 and everyone involved gave tremendous effort. Behind the scene pretty much was my friend Bill Flannagan, a graduate of Tollgate High School who is a senior VP at VH-1 did such a great job and deserves so much credit, even though knowing him he will divert it in so many different directions, that's just the way Bill is. Seeing the survivors, families, and honoring the victims made this a night to remember while raising much need funds, and it doesn't stop here with many of the artists, like Dee Snyder of Twisted Sister, dedicated to helping people associated with this tragedy. Easter weekend will be the airing of the event on VH-1, and I would urge everyone to buy a copy of the dvd when released. I watched the interview Bill did with Aaron Lewis of Staind and it was from the heart, not to be missed, as were so many other interviews conducted throughout the day and even the weekend prior. Hopefully this is just the start of many more fundraisers to come.

I am from Connecticut and had attended the concert monday night and was very glad to have been part of it. I do not have any family members or friends that were there the night of the fire, but have met some burn victims along the way.

I was touched buy all the volunteers that participated in the benefit, from staff of the Dunkin donuts Center to the musicians. Just wanted to pass along a big Thank you to all of them. And also a big Thanks to VH1 and CMT for sharing the stories too.
