Michelle Obama to campaign in R.I. tomorrow

Michelle Obama is coming to Rhode Island tomorrow to talk about her husband, Sen. Barack Obama, and his run for the presidency.

First, she’ll be meeting at a private get-together for a “Women for Obama” launch event at 1:30 p.m. The gathering is by invitation only, the campaign said.

Tomorrow evening she’ll join her brother, Brown University basketball coach Craig Robinson at Community College Rhode Island’s Knight Campus in Warwick for a rally.

The 5:45 p.m. event is open to the public but it’s at the Student Dining Commons, so there’s limited space; you can secure tickets online.

Fellow Democratic presidential contender Sen. Hillary Clinton is set to visit the Ocean State on Sunday
, though she hasn't yet announced where. GOP frontrunner Sen. John McCain stopped here for a campaign rally last week.

I think that Mrs. Obama needs to clarify what she meant when she said that she had never been proud of the country during her adult life?

The Republicans will beat us over the head with this if Sen. Obama is our nominee.

True Democrat,

You are badly misquoting Mrs.Obama.

By the way, I also have not been proud of the U.S. bombing and destroying Iraq, which had nothing to do with 9/11, and which was an enemy of Al Qaeda. Killing hundreds of thousands of civilians in another country plus thousands of American service people for no reason is hardly admirable.

Nor have I been proud of the Clintons' Nafta shipping U.S. workers' jobs out of the country and leaving many people in the U.S. without jobs.

If Hillary is the nominee, she will lose badly to McCain, since so many people dislike her. Every Republican will go to the polls to vote against her, as will most of the leftwing of the Democratic party. She would not stand a chance of being elected. Obama does not have those high negative ratings.

I have never been proud of being characterized as American, from Vietnam, to the Cold War, to Iraq, to embargo against Cuba, to Shah of Iran support, to experimenting on prisoners, to the Patriot Act, etc, etc. Perhaps Barack Obama could make many of us proud to live in this country. Just maybe.

I have never been proud of being characterized as American,

And yet here you are, taking advantage of all the wonderful things there are to being an American. Funny, that.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

True Democrat and EMT,

You need to go look at the history of this country, and recognize what used to make it great, and what has been lost.

i love how people who are critical of the country they live in - are always encouraged to leave it -- by the small minds who embrace the status quo

It doesn't seem like there is much to clarify. She's ashamed of a country that gave her and her family the opportunities which they currently have. I'll start the fund to buy her a one-way ticket to another country where she'll be happier. Anyone care to donate?

It's time we stopped apologizing for having an opinion. I would urge all Americans to recall that tolerance is what makes this country great. Not George Bush or Mr. America-Love-it-or-Leave. Tolerance and respect knows no party affiliation.
