Presidential contender McCain to visit R.I. on Thursday
PROVIDENCE -- Republican presidential candidate John McCain will visit Rhode Island this week, making him the first presidential candidate to appear in the Ocean State before the March 4 primary.
House Minority Leader Bob Watson, who leads McCain's campaign here, says the GOP front-runner will attend a Thursday afternoon rally at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick.
Watson says it's short notice, but he's very excited about the visit by the senator from Arizona.
He says the details haven't been worked out yet, but there could also be a fundraiser for McCain.
McCain is visiting Vermont the same day. Vermont, Texas and Ohio also vote on March 4.
